J. Paul Curry, M.D.
Chief of Staff

J. Paul Curry, M.D., assumed the Chief of Staff position for Hoag Hospital's 1028-member medical staff in October 2005. In this role, Dr. Curry serves as the medical staff liaison to the hospital's administrative staff and its board of directors. He also leads numerous patient care enhancement initiatives and focuses on ensuring ongoing medical compliance among his peers. A practicing anesthesiologist, Dr. Curry has been a member of Hoag Hospital's medical staff since 1989.

At Hoag, Dr. Curry currently chairs the Medical Executive Committee, and serves as a member of the Safety Council, Strategic Planning Committee of the Board, Joint Conference Committee, Executive Committee of the Board, Rapid Response Team Council, and the PAS Task Force. A member of the Medical Executive Committee for the past 5 years, Dr. Curry also served as Vice Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology from 2000 to 2002. Additionally, for the past 16 years, he has been an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at UCLA.

Dr. Curry received his medical degree from University of Florida. He then completed an internship at Saint Mary Medical Center in Long Beach followed by a residency in Anesthesiology at UCLA School of Medicine. In addition to his board certification in Anesthesiology, Dr. Curry is also board certified in Emergency Medicine.

Upon completion of his medical training, Dr. Curry continued at Saint Mary Medical Center and served as an emergency medicine attending physician, and later became the Assistant Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine. Soon after, he joined Hoag Hospital where he has been practicing anesthesiology since 1989. Dr. Curry has published several clinical abstracts and papers, and has received numerous awards, acknowledgements and honors for excellence in his field.

Dr. Curry has been a member of many professional societies including: American Heart Association, American and Californian Societies of Anesthesiologists, American College of Emergency Physicians and Physicians for Social Responsibility. He was also the founding member of the American Trauma Society.

Dr. Curry resides in Newport Beach with his wife, Jeanne, and their five daughters.
