Circle 1000 Raises the Philanthropic Bar for Hoag Cancer Center

May 22, 2007 - Newport Beach, CA: Circle 1000 celebrated yet another record-breaking success, raising nearly $1.2 million for Hoag Cancer Center at this year’s 20th Annual Founder’s Brunch.

On May 21, more than 600 donors and guests gathered at the Marriott Newport Beach Hotel and Spa to hear an inspirational message by college football legend Lou Holtz. Well known for his successful career as head coach of Notre Dame, Holtz currently serves as a college football studio analyst on ESPN.

For years, Lou Holtz has been considered one of the top motivational speakers in America. He speaks on overcoming seemingly impossible challenges by setting goals and working to achieve them.

Author of three New York Times best-selling books and producer of three highly acclaimed motivational videos, Holtz shared the inspiring account of how his wife Beth battled stage 4 squamous cell throat cancer, and emerged a victor as a 10-year cancer survivor.

“It was an honor to speak about a subject that touches so many lives,” said Holtz. “I hope that the audience was both encouraged and inspired to continue in their support of cancer research and treatment programs.”

About Circle 1000

For the past 20 years, the Circle 1000 Founders’ Brunch has been bringing together a host of donors to support cancer programs at Hoag Hospital and to celebrate survival.

Founded in 1988 by Sandy Sewell, during the $23 million campaign to raise funds to build the Patty & George Hoag Cancer Center, Circle 1000 allows community members to make a direct gift in support of cancer research and treatment for Hoag Cancer Center. Instead of asking donors to join committees or attend meetings, Circle 1000 honors their support by hosting a single event each year, the Founders’ Brunch.

Since its inception, Circle 1000 has contributed more than $8 million for cancer programs at Hoag Hospital.
