Hoag Breast Care Center leads the first Breast Consortium in Orange County history

Hoag Breast Care Center brings together medical experts from leading Orange County hospitals to discuss the future of breast health care

August 18, 2008 - Newport Beach, CA: Hoag Breast Care Center announced the first Orange County Breast Consortium (OCBC) was held August 13, 2008. Breast surgeons from leading Orange County hospitals met to discuss Interoperative Radiation Therapy, presented by J.K. Harness, M.D. from St. Joseph’s Hospital, as the first topic at the inaugural meeting.

OCBC is setting a new precedent by opening dialog with Orange County’s top experts in breast care at the very first consortium for Orange County breast physicians. OCBC will meet monthly to continue an open dialog among breast experts in the region.

“The purpose of the Breast Consortium is to facilitate a stronger consensus on treatment of breast disease among our county’s leading breast care experts,” says OCBC founders, Melvin Silverstein, M.D., medical director for Hoag Breast Care Center and John West, M.D of the Breast Care and Imaging Center of Orange County. “Our goal is that these meetings will ultimately lead to better access to advanced breast care for all Orange County women.”

Leading-edge techniques, such as oncoplastic surgery, will be discussed at each meeting. Breast Surgeons from major Orange County hospitals will attend. These meetings will serve to provide additional continued education for breast physicians and introduce the latest advances in breast health. It will serve as a forum for experts to share techniques and adopt new protocols.
