Treatment
Our program is guided by the following beliefs:
- Chemical dependency is highly treatable.
- Motivation for treatment may be internally based or externally based. Although it is preferable for patients to recognize the need for help through their own insight, effective treatment can also occur when prospective patients enter treatment out of fear of losing something of value (e.g., employment, spouse, health or even freedom).
- Chemical dependency is best treated in a setting that offers a continuum of care levels.
- Chemically dependent individuals tend to manifest many different symptoms. Treatment is most effective when it is based upon a comprehensive assessment of all major life areas, and is provided by a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Chemical dependency is difficult to understand out of the context of the family. Effective treatment for this disease includes treatment of the family.
- Effective treatment must address the effects of chemical dependency on the individual’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.
- True recovery is a lifelong process. This process is most effective when it includes an aftercare program and a commitment to a 12-Step or other self-help program, e.g., Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Narcotics Anonymous (NA) Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Pills Anonymous (PA), Al-Anon and Nar-Anon.
- Our addiction treatment philosophy promotes the abstinence based model of recovery, where abstinence is defined as free from alcohol, illicit drugs, and any prescription medication that can be abused.
The goals of treatment are as follows:
- To provide a therapeutic environment in which the patient may clarify and gain insight into early recovery issues as well as relapse factors
- To provide education regarding the tools and process of recovery from the disease
- To provide education regarding the facts of the disease of chemical dependency
- To assist the patient in making a smooth transition into the 12-step support groups (e.g. Alcoholics Anonymous)
- To support long term, sustainable recovery through the Hoag Aftercare and Alumni programs
To enhance these goals of treatment, each patient will have the opportunity to participate in the Family Program, continuing care support groups and 12-step self-help groups. Additional recommendations and/or referrals are made as needed to support long-term sobriety. The Chemical Dependency Recovery Center accommodates persons who are at least 18 years of age regardless of sex, race, creed, color or national origin.
