Jack L. Cox, M.D., M.M.M.
Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer
Jack L. Cox, M.D., M.M.M., joined Hoag Hospital as chief quality officer (CQO) in September 2006. Dr. Cox is an industry expert who has been widely published and is a regular speaker in the areas of wellness, medical management, quality improvement, physician engagement and product evaluation. As a senior physician executive, Dr. Cox brings over 20 years of experience in medical practice, clinical performance improvement and corporate leadership in high-level regional and national positions.
As the senior executive directly responsible for all aspects of quality of care, measurement, performance improvement and patient safety, Dr. Cox works with Hoag medical staff, senior administrative staff and Board of Directors to lead and direct hospital resources, and will develop and oversee a comprehensive, effective quality management and performance improvement program for the hospital.
Prior to joining Hoag, Dr. Cox served as group vice president and chief medical officer of Premier, Inc., a nation-wide health care alliance of more than 1500 not-for-profit hospitals, specializing in group purchasing, supply chain management, clinical performance improvement and health care informatics. Serving with Premier since 1999, Dr. Cox played a significant role in leading Premier to become the largest national group purchasing organization in 2005 with a purchasing volume of more than $27 billion. Many quality initiatives of national prominence have been initiated under Dr. Cox’s leadership, including laying the foundation for the Premier / Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) pay-for-performance demonstration project for hospitals.
Dr. Cox received his medical doctorate from University of Mississippi School of Medicine and holds an active medical license in Utah, Mississippi and North Carolina. He attained his masters degree in medical management from Tulane University School of Public Health in 1998.
