Interventional Radiology
What is Interventional Radiology and Interventional Neuroradiology?
Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology offers a minimally-invasive alternative to the surgical treatment of many conditions and in most cases also reduces the need for hospitalization.
Interventional radiologists treat an ever-increasing range of conditions by utilizing small instruments, such as catheters or wires, which are guided through the body by use of various x-ray and imaging techniques, such as CT, MRI, ultrasound, etc.

What do I need to do to prepare for my exam at Hoag?
If scheduled for an exam at the main hospital, please check in at the Outpatient Registration department located in the Women's Pavilion prior to coming to the Radiology department.
Please dress in loose, comfortable two-piece clothing. No belts, buttons or zippers.
Notify your physician if you have any allergies to iodine, or any similar allergies to foods or medications.
If possible, drink plenty of fluids starting 24 hours prior to your exam so that you are well hydrated. Drink only clear fluids 2 hours before your scheduled exam time.
Please note: Many interventional procedures require that you come in for a consultation prior to your exam. You will be informed about this at the time of scheduling. Prep information depends upon the type of procedure. Please refer to the specific instructions for your exam as noted below.
Please call 949/764-6192 for any additional questions or concerns.
What should I bring with me when I arrive at Hoag?
Many insurance providers require prior authorization. Please verify with your ordering physician that, if required, an authorization has been obtained, to avoid any unexpected costs, delays or cancellations.
Bring your physician's written order, insurance card and proof of pre-authorization (if applicable) with you to your appointment.
Bring any prior exams pertaining to your procedure that were not done at a Hoag or Newport Imaging facility as soon as possible. Please note: Biopsies require that a physician review your prior studies before you may schedule an exam date.
Please bring a current list of your medications, including herbal and vitamin supplements, as well as the current dose of these medications. If possible, click on PATIENT HOME MEDICATION LIST, print and complete this document prior to coming in for your scheduled appointment.
In addition, please print and complete the PATIENT HISTORY QUESTIONNAIRE prior to coming in for your appointment.
