Swallowing Disorders

Hoag Voice and Swallowing Center offers multidisciplinary care for patients with disorders affecting their ability to swallow. Common swallowing disorders include:
  • Aspiration of foods and liquids secondary to a wide variety of disorders.
  • Neurologic conditions including stroke, Parkinsonism, and motor neuron disease
  • Food or pills sticking in the throat or esophagus
  • Regurgitation of foods or liquids due to Zenker’s and other pharyngeal diverticuli (pouches in the throat)
  • Aging related changes of swallowing
  • Acid reflux related swallowing disorders
  • Radiation induced swallowing dysfunction
  • Lump in the throat
  • Esophageal spasm
